The Count Down Has Begun ... NaNo! Maverick Touch #2 Here We Go!

It's that time of year that writers love - that month were everything your heart and mind can focus on are devoted to one thing and one thing only .... WRITING!

This will be my third attempt. In 2011 I tried to write a story and literally nothing came of it. I can't even remember what the hell it was I was going to write about. In 2012 I was doing SO good. Then I got sick for two weeks and bammm. I had 30,000 words by week two and then nothing. Took me exactly 6 weeks and 6 days to finish Maverick Touch: The Cat. So what am I tackling this year in NaNo? Maverick Touch #2. This year I AM going to finish. Come hell or high water. Even if I have to bleed the words into my computer I WILL WIN!

So why am I doing Maverick Touch # 2? Well, I think, if I can manage, I'd like Nadia and Mr. A to be my November tradition. I have really loved all the feedback I have gotten on the first book and I can't wait to see where the second one goes.

What's to be expected in the sequel? All I got at the moment is Nadia, Anabella and Mr. A are going to Houston. Why Houston? Because my husband said "Bring Nadia to Houston, it will be easier to write about a city you know." I sure as hell hope he is right!

Just like the first book I am planning on doing zero planning. I want this body of fiction to grow organically. I am also going to be doing something a tad bit different. I am going to be posting my unedited - updates to Smashwords so people can follow along with me if they want too. I always thrive having reader feedback while I'm writing so I thought this time I would branch out beyond my immediate beta circle.

So all you NaNo writers out there, if you want to add me then my name is tigerlady52.

Actually I think my happiest part about this NaNo is that my good friend Jennifer from College (one of my longest friendships) is going to be participating in NaNo this year with me in an attempt to write her first novel. I'm so thrilled to be doing this with one of my close friends.

Alright - Let's Do This! Mr A and Nadia are ready to come out and play.

Excerpt

Riley walked away and took a few steps toward the river. With his back facing me, he stood while looking at the waterfall. It was a beautiful scene—his tall, shirtless body with his blonde hair tousled and gently blowing in the wind. He took another step and surprised me by kicking off his boots. Then, he leaned down and rolled up his pant legs. He jogged over to a cluster of large rocks, his footing quick and poised, and sat with his bare feet dangling in the water.
I yelled out, "Is it safe to do that?"
He looked at me and laughed lightly. "Yeah, it’s safe. Do you think there are piranhas or crocodiles in the river?" He continued to chuckle, and a toothy smile broke free on my face. "Don't worry. There isn't anything deadly in these waters—just harmless fish, frogs, and Northern Water snakes. They won't hurt you." He beckoned to me. "Come over here and join me. The water is nice and cool." He kicked his feet, making splashes in the water.
I was hesitant to join him, but the water intrigued me. I decided to trust him, so I walked over to the rocks. They were flat, smooth, and slick. My steps were wobbly as I tried to avoid getting a foot stuck in the cracks or slipping on the moss. Once I stood next to him, he looked up at me with a wide smile. I removed my sneakers, peeled off my socks, and rolled up my sweatpants. Riley was right. The water was pleasantly cool and refreshing.
He kicked his feet again, this time making a bigger splash. I tried to outdo him, but my smaller feet were no match for his large ones. We laughed together, but the rushing water overpowered the harmonious sound.
I stole a glance at him while he looked at the river. He leaned back casually on his elbows, and I couldn't help but admire his six-pack abs and toned chest. Little, brown moles spotted his torso, and I imagined playing connect-the-dots with my tongue. His skin enticed me, and I wanted to run my hands all over it. A lustful feeling washed over me, and I swallowed thickly, averting my gaze.
Riley chuckled low in his throat, and I knew he caught me staring. His hand touched my lower back, and I looked at him over my shoulder. A grin spread across his lips as he tugged the shirt hem.
"This is my shirt, isn't it?" My eyes widened, and I whipped my head around. In less than two seconds, my face flushed with heat.
"Um, yes," I mumbled. "Sorry. I borrowed it, because Quinn's clothes were too small for me, and I didn't feel comfortable browsing through Celia's wardrobe." The latter reason was a lie. I was just determined to cover myself with his clothes.
"No worries. I don't mind," he soothed. "You can borrow whatever you want. What's mine is yours, love."
I turned my head slightly to peek at him, grateful his focus was still on the shirt. I recalled the words he spoke earlier. "Let's say hypothetically I did stay here with you. How would we be together when I'm human and you're a wolf?"
"If you're referring to us being biologically compatible, Máni and Freya blessed us, so we can breed with humans."
His foot brushed against mine under the water. It came back a second time and then a third. He sat up and scooted closer to me, until our thighs were touching. I looked over at him and almost fell into his seafoam pools. I had to regain control before I did something I would regret...like lean over and kiss those bee-stung lips.

Centuries ago Acheron saved the human race by imprisoning an ancient evil bent on absolute destruction. Now that evil has been unleashed and it is out for revenge.

As the twin to Acheron, Styxx hasn’t always been on his brother’s side. They’ve spent more centuries going at each other’s throats than protecting their backs. Now Styxx has a chance to prove his loyalty to his brother, but only if he’s willing to trade his life and future for Acheron’s.

The Atlantean goddess of Wrath and Misery, Bethany was born to right wrongs. But it was never a task she relished. Until now. She owes Acheron a debt that she vows to repay, no matter what it takes. He will join their fellow gods in hell and nothing is going to stop her.

But things are never what they seem, and Acheron is no longer the last of his line. Styxx and Acheron must put aside their past and learn to trust each other or more will suffer.

Yet it’s hard to risk your own life for someone who once tried to take yours, even when it's your own twin, and when loyalties are skewed and no one can be trusted, not even yourself, how do you find a way back from the darkness that wants to consume the entire world? One that wants to start by devouring your very soul?

Review:
First off I really loved this book. I loved her writing style and the way she put everything together. It's really a great feeling to pick up a book and have the desire to hold onto it and not put it down until each word is absorbed.

I loved Artie, loved loved loved Artie. LOVED Simi. I think those two stole the show for me. "Revenge is a Cat." Love it!!

The only reason I gave this a 4-star instead of 5 is because there were some Continuity issues I had along with the story line itself. I would have preferred that Styxx not be a poor me pity me type story line with all the same bad things that happened to Acheron happening to him. It would be better in my eyes if he had been a royal asshole and then redeemed himself.

Overall I think this was her best book to date when you consider this over 800 page massive beast being read in just under two days. I couldn't put it down.

October 25th - 31st: Halloween Edition: What is your favorite horror novel and why?

The Stand by Steven King - I have read this book over and over. I discovered it my freshman year of College by accident and I was sold. I remember watching the movie (that felt like it lasted 12 hours lol) but it just enhanced the book. I don't think I could ever get tired of this novel. I love so much about it, up to the point that one of the reasons I wanted to use Colorado Springs in my own book series was because it was so important inside The Stand.

Fire & Ice Book Tours: An Element of Time by Bebe Knight

I am pleased to welcome Fire and Ice Book Tours presenting, Bebe Knight
A vampire and a slayer walk into a bar… Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but for Veronica and Mackenzie, it’s the beginning of the rest of their lives…

The world has seen its fair share of evil, but Veronica Chase had no idea such monsters truly existed. Werewolves, poltergeists, witches… even vampires. Ignorance was bliss. But her reality was crushed on that horrid day her family was taken away from her. Now, Veronica has devoted her entire life to hunting those very creatures, searching for the werewolf pack that murdered her parents in hopes of finding her abducted sister. Nothing will get in her way of settling the score for the hand she was unjustly dealt. That is until her newest assignment brings her to her knees.

After one hundred and eight years on earth, Mackenzie Jones thought he had seen it all. With the exception of daylight of course, but that’s what comes with the territory being a vampire and all. Perpetually damned to live his life as a bartender in the shadows of the night, nothing has sparked his interest lately. Just once he wished something exciting would happen in his mundane life. Little did he know, his wish was about to come true. Walking through the door to his bar, and into his heart, Mackenzie allows love to take the wheel for the first time. There’s just one slight problem. She’s there to kill him.

Excerpt:

Veronica took a seat on an empty stool in a deserted corner, far enough away from anyone to hear a conversation. He glanced her way and held up a finger to let her know he’d be right over. Mackenzie was currently busy talking with two girls, a blond and a brunette, who were both dressed to kill and definitely playing him up. The blond kept laughing louder than necessary, while the brunette playfully hit his arm.
Veronica rolled her eyes. It was obvious to anyone with half a brain what they were after. However, his demeanor suggested that he was uninterested. Either that or just very naïve. Points for her if that were the case. When he was finally able to remove himself from the talkative twins, he made his was over to take her order.
“What can I get you?” Mackenzie asked with his back to her, ringing out another customer on the cash register. He had no clue that she held the fate of his life in her hands.
“Make it a Bloody Mary,” she requested. Trying to see if she could get him to turn around, she hoisted her messenger bag onto the bar, making a loud thump in the process.
He cocked his head toward her, and raised an eyebrow. “You sure you can handle it? I like mine extra hot.”
“Yeah, ninety-eight point six degrees,” she muttered under her breath. “Bring it on Mackenzie, I like a challenge.” He turned around at the mention of his name.
God, he’s gorgeous, Veronica thought. Shit, is he using mind control on me? She shook her head to clear her thoughts. Now was her chance-- all she had to do was hop over the bar and stake him. Easy enough, right?
“Now that I have your undivided attention, let me introduce myself. I’m Veronica Chase and I’ll be your slayer tonight.” She took a stake out of her bag and placed it on the bar. “Any questions?”

Character Interview with Veronica Chase

  • Q: For those of us who don’t know you, tell us a little about yourself.
    • A: Well… I’m Veronica. I’m 23, I have reddish-brown hair, green eyes and I’m a hunter.

  • Q: A hunter? Like the fish and game variety?
    • A: No, no, no. More along the lines of beasts and monsters that go bump in the night. You know, demons, werewolves, vampires. Things of that nature.

·         Q: What got you started in that business endeavor?
o   A: My parents were murdered at the hands of a werewolf while I was away at college. When I got home, there was a small group of hunters there assessing the situation and they offered me a job right then and there. I had nothing else left, so I accepted. And to be honest, the prospect of getting revenge against the werewolf was beyond tempting.

·         Q: What was your most difficult hunt?
o   A: Probably the most recent one where I was asked to kill four vampires on my own. But it was also the most rewarding hunt as well, which you will find out why in the book.

  • Q: So now on to some more personal questions. What three words best describe yourself?
    • A: Tenacious, understanding and trustworthy

  • Q: What song is playing on your iPod right now?
    • A: Ha! I don’t have an iPod, I’m still making mix CDs. I know, lame. But as far as music goes, I’m really into ‘70s rock like The Who, Queen, Dylan, Costello.

  • Q: What was your first concert experience?
    • A: Hanson. I pretended that my sister dragged me to it, but I secretly had a good time. Had a major crush on that middle one.

  • Q: What is your favorite movie?
    • A: That changes for me almost by the day. If you asked me last week I would have said Back to the Future, today I’m really digging Pitch Perfect. It all depends on my mood.

  • Q: What is something not many people know about you?
    • A: I have a tattoo on my back in memory of my parents.

  • Q: Final Question. What is your idea of a perfect date?
    • A: My Mack is so much more romantic than I could ever imagine anyone being. He’s the type of guy that would hold a boom box over his head outside your window playing the most romantic song he could find. I will say there is no beating the time he sang “Dancing in the Moonlight” to me under a full moon. That was a great night!

Excerpts

Aphrodisiac

Arms pinned above my head
His hard body molded perfectly against my soft curves
Heavy breathing along my skin ,goose bumps appear across my flesh
His husky voice coated with lust speaking my name
My legs part with ease for him
Hurricane

The day you walked into my life
You came in like hurricane
whisking me off my feet.
You caught my tears
wiping them off my cheeks
My heart slowly healed itself
You picked up the pieces
Putting it back together for me
I started to smile again

October 18th - 24th: Halloween Edition: Norman Bates VS Hannibal Lecter: Which one of these famous book murderers is scarier? (Optional Question: Who is your favorite book villain?)

Hannibal - hands down. I love how twisted and sick he is!  I would hate to be face to face with someone who could read me and my thoughts better than I can. He would intimidate me to no end!

For the option question - this is a very hard question for me. Not because I don't like villains but because I like so many!!! I think the best way for me to do this is to just list my top two.

Malfoy from Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling - Now some might argue that he wasn't a real true villain, but to me, he gave Harry a very hard time practically his whole youth and that makes hima villain. Why do I like him? I think its because I feel like Malfoy was crucial in how Harry turned out and with out the torment then I don't think he would have been the same.

Tanerk Raka from Blood Myth by Stacy A. Moran - I LOVE this character. He is made of raw sexuality. This is a new author, who yes, is a friend of mine. But I am just in-love with her character. He is everything I would want in a 'book boyfriend' and he is just fantastic. Ever since I first met her character (in the development stages of her book) I was sold. He kills, takes, invades and doesn't care who he hurts in the process. But his raw animal type qualities make him so desirable.

 Review

There is something about the way Ivy writes that pulls me in and keeps me enthralled. Her technique has me wanting to finish the books she writes and make me want to explore others that she has written that I haven't read yet.

This book was no exception. It had two main characters that I could identify with and that I enjoyed. The only thing that I felt I was left wanting is the end felt rushed. There was the build up and suspense on the two's drama and then bam it was resolved. I'd have liked to had that drawn out a bit more.

Overall - I would say this short story was a deff winner and very enjoyable.

“Come on Jake, what’s wrong?”
I looked down at her and moved my hips, causing my cock to rub against her wet lips. “I just want to savor this. It’s not often that you are naked and in my arms.”
“Whose fault is that now?”
“Yours, you obviously wear to much cloths.”
I felt her move her hand between our bodies and when she wrapped her fingers around me I froze.

October 11th - 17th: Halloween Edition: What scary book would you like turned into a feature film?

Oh man - this is hard - A lot of the scary books I have read are already movies. Hmmm, well, I think I'm going to have to go with any of Kay Hooper's SCU/Bishop series. I absolutely love Bishop and the whole Special Crimes Unit of the FBI. They deal with some crazy people and I think seeing them on screen would freak people out.
