My stomach
rolled when he spoke. His tone changed,
and he spoke with the authority of a doctor explaining a procedure to their
patient. Where normally this would be
soothing for the patient, the more details he divulged, the more apprehensive I
became. I would only have one attempt at
breaking through his Displacement.
I tuned him out and closed my eyes. I needed every last bit of strength I had to
fight this monster before me. I was so
deep in concentration, that I didn’t notice the quiet. He stopped talking. I opened my eyes and was

Author Rasha Selim was born in Cairo, Egypt
and was raised in both Cairo and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She moved
to the U.S. to attend college and pursue a career as a Forensic Psychologist.
