Enchanted Book Promotions Presents: Spotlight: Love's Tug of War by Pauline Parson

About The Book

Title:
Love’s Tug of War
Author: Pauline Parson
Genre: Contemporary Romance
At 41 Paula finds herself on her own in beautiful Arizona. She’s a talented comic artist – with a broken heart – a widower that has a chance to discover if she can make it as an cartoonist or fall flat on her face. Jeb Cotner accepts Paula as his new finish artist for his famous Honky Tonk Man comic strip. She has a chance of a lifetime to learn from the famous syndicated satirist. This job holds the opportunity that could lead to her own comic strip career. Yet, rumors fly that the 75-year-old artist is a cantankerous old man who has an eye for the “young girls”.
With grave doubts, she leaves her quiet life in New England and heads into “cowboy” country with her own comic character, Abby Press, at her side. Her world is turned upside down by two handsome brothers, neighbors of Jeb Cotner, who vie for her attention. Her sexual desires awaken, something so new to the young woman that it sends her to heights that she had long forgotten existed. She plays a dangerous game of “Tug of War” as her heart is torn between the two men.

Author Bio

Pauline lived in New England most of her life. She grew up in the hills of northwest Connecticut, did her college on Maine’s beautiful coast and spent her early-married years in Massachusetts. She later returned to her Connecticut roots. She settled in with her husband, two boys and a big Great Dane on a small “gentleman’s farm” in the mountains (yes there are mountains in Connecticut) for 33 years.
During those years, they raised goats, geese, turkeys, chickens and a mischievous horse named Midnight Madness. After the boys grew up and had lives of their own, Pauline and her husband moved to Central Florida. Ever since the kids were little they had loved Disney- they are now only 20 minutes from the parks and visit often. She lives a quiet life writing fiction and motorcycling with her husband whenever she can find the time. Her two cats and fun loving miniature beagle keep life interesting.
This is Pauline’s first foray into a Romance type genre. (Her SciFi, Fantasy, Racing and Motorcycling books are published under a different pen name) “I always wanted to write books about women coming into their own while fighting adversity and finding meaningful relationships. My women characters are always strong and independent and in “Tug of War” I continue with Paula finding the courage and independence to find her own way.”
Don’t miss Pauline’s next romance, coming soon, “Love’s Passion Perfect”.

The school year should end right after spring break, because all anyone can focus on is summer vacation. You can’t learn anything new, because all you can think about is all the fun stuff you’re going to do once you don’t have to get up at the butt crack of dawn. Summer always seems full of possibilities.

Nothing exciting ever happens during the school year, but maybe, during summer vacation, you could run into a hot celebrity and he’d decide to put you in his next music video. Okay, it wasn’t like I knew anybody that happened to, but my grandparents did live next door to a former TV star, Simone Hendrickson, and Simone was discovered in an ice cream parlor one summer. Of course, she lived in L.A. at the time and was already doing plays and commercials, so the guy who discovered her had already seen her perform. But hey, it was summer, she got discovered, and that was all that mattered.

Amazing stuff didn’t happen to me. You know what happened to me last summer? I stepped on a bee and had to go to the emergency room. They’re not going to make an E! True Hollywood Story out of my life. I didn’t go on exotic vacations—like today, I was being dragged along with my parents to my cousin’s graduation party. Most people waited until at least the end of May before having a grad party, but Charisma was having hers early because she was leaving on a trip to Spain. I was dreading this party because I didn’t want to listen to everybody talk about how smart and talented Charisma was—making me feel like a blob in comparison—but my mom RSVP’d even though I said I’d rather die than go. My death threats meant nothing. But still, for some strange reason, I had a feeling this summer was going to be different.

Title: Girl of Myth and Legend
Author: Giselle Simlett
Genre: Fantasy / Romance
A girl with a past she tries to forget, and a future she can’t even imagine.
Leonie Woodville wants to live an unremarkable life. She wants routine, she wants repetition, she wants predictability. So when she explodes in a blaze of light one morning on the way to her college, it’s enough to put a real crimp in her day.
And things only get weirder…
Leonie learns from her father that she is last of the Pulsar, a phenomenally powerful member of a magical species called the Chosen. It will be her sole duty to protect the Imperium, a governing hierarchy, from all enemies, and to exceed the reputation of the Pulsar before her. So – no pressure there, then.
Leonie is swept away from her rigorous normality and taken to a world of magic. There, she is forced into a ceremony to join her soul to a guardian, Korren, who is both incredibly handsome and intensely troubled, a relationship for which ‘it’s complicated’ just really doesn’t cut it.
But Leonie is soon to learn that this ancient world is no paradise. With violent dissidents intent to overthrow the Imperium, and dark entities with their own agenda, she and Korren find themselves caught in a war where they will have to overcome their differences if they are to survive.
Dare to dream. Dare to hope. Dare to be a legend.

BLURB

WICKED above her hipbone, GIRL across her heart
Words are like a road map to reporter Camille Preaker’s troubled past. Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, Camille’s first assignment from the second-rate daily paper where she works brings her reluctantly back to her hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls.

NASTY on her kneecap, BABYDOLL on her leg
Since she left town eight years ago, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed again in her family’s Victorian mansion, Camille is haunted by the childhood tragedy she has spent her whole life trying to cut from her memory.

HARMFUL on her wrist, WHORE on her ankle
As Camille works to uncover the truth about these violent crimes, she finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Clues keep leading to dead ends, forcing Camille to unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past to get at the story. Dogged by her own demons, Camille will have to confront what happened to her years before if she wants to survive this homecoming.

With its taut, crafted writing, Sharp Objects is addictive, haunting, and unforgettable.

REVIEW

It has been a long time since I picked up a physical paperback book and just sat in bed staying up way to late reading. BUT! That is exactly what I did with this book. It was just a faced paced but still detail orientated book. The characters were so impacting. Any mental disorder you could think of I think was touched on by these characters and it was fantastic.

Not that disorders are fantastic but how they were woven into everyday life by seemingly everyday people was great. These characters COULD have been your girls next door or your boy next door growing up.

As much as I LOVED this book, and I did. I did not like the ending. It was very very quick like all the sudden we had to wrap every story line up with a nice neat bow and then we are done. Which made me feel robbed as a reader. It was like why have all this awesome detail and story and build up if you're just going to cheap out in the end.

But overall I would read another book by this author anytime. Because I felt so robbed by the ending I'm only going to give this book 4 stars. But it was still a fantastic read!

THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME
Author: Kelli Jean
Series: NOLA's Own Series, Book #3
- SYNOPSIS -
Phil
“Kenna stood strong, taking my grief into herself. In that moment, if the world had truly threatened to fall, I had no doubt my Baby Girl would hold it up.”

A pillar of strength, Kenna only grows stronger as time passes. I’ve known from the beginning that I was the weak link between us. Always, she’s risen above and beyond the darkness of the unknown that threatens to suck me down. This time…I’ll have to crawl out of that darkness on my own.

Kenna
“What we have—the kind of love we share—comes at a price. The universe demands it. It’s not free, and it shouldn’t be.”

So many souls make up the fabric of the music. Thousands upon thousands of years, millions of eyes and ears, hands and hearts have seen, heard, created and felt it. There’s only one who sings to me, and in the face of the unknown, I watch him lose the language of the soul. The pain and loss for Phil is so great, I have no way to bring the symphony back into his being, as he has done for me so many times.

Within me for now, for always…The Song Remains the Same.

- ABOUT THE AUTHOR -
KELLI JEAN

Born and raised in Miami, Kelli Jean traded the tropical heat for the arctic. Now she deals with twenty-four hour daylight in the summer, zero sunlight in the winter, and believes the Northern Lights make up for the mind-boggling amount of ice and snow she has to put up with for seven months out of the year. She’s surrounded by mountains and ocean and sheep, and claims her bizarre sense of humor is what keeps her sane. The insane don’t know they’re insane. Kelli uses her imagination to create worlds she can escape to from the mundane tasks of everyday life, such as washing the damn dishes and vacuuming up Legos off the floor—and don’t get her started on the mad amount of cat hair on the end of the couch. She gave up on that a long time ago. When the household goes to sleep at night, she writes down everything that happened in her head while doing such tedious chores. But she enjoys living in her own head, so that’s pretty cool. Technology terrifies her. She can barely turn on a computer, and was completely shocked when she’d actually written a book on one. To this day, she has no explanation for this baffling mystery. It took her three years to realize she can take screen shots of messages and pictures of bearded, tattooed men with her phone. Now that she’s mastered this task, her phone is slowly dying, and she’s nervous that she’s going to have to buy a new one and it will take her another three years to learn how to use it.

REVIEW

When I was asked to review this book it didn't click that this was a non-fiction. I don't typically read those books.

So please keep that in mind while you read this review.

I thought the quality of the writing itself was some of the best I've read all year. This author wrote very cleanly and there wasn't any moments of confusion or potential for confusion for readers I thought.

However with all those positives ... this just wasn't the book for me. I feel like I learned a lot and def don't regret spending my time reading it. I just really got the confirmation that I am not a non-fiction kinda gal.

Overall I'm going to give this 4 stars. I really think the writing quality was good and I think if non-fiction was my thing this would be a slam dunk. But since it isn't my thing I just cant give it 5 stars.

Sage Blog Tours Presents: Blitz: Summer on the Cold War Planet

Summer on the Cold War Planet
By Paula Classon Buck
Genre: Literary Fiction
Release: September 3, 2015
Publisher: Fomite

“Each story he told shed about as much light as a match and made all the dark around it worth wanting to know...”

In the late spring of 1989, Lyddie, a young American art historian, finds herself alone and pregnant when her husband, Phelps, disappears in Kurdish Iraq. Set adrift from the security of their marriage, she returns to the divided city of Berlin where they met four years before, seeking truths she believes Phelps may have kept from her.
Now the ferment at Germany’s borders is spilling into the private lives of their bohemian friends—particularly that of exiled East German painter Axel Herzog. Lyddie has always felt the gravitational pull of Axel’s art and of the stories of mystics he learned as a boy in Greece. And though Phelps once warned her away from Axel, the attraction grows stronger as she uncovers a vulnerability beneath the scorn he learned on the other side of the Wall.
When revelations about Axel’s past force her to retreat to an island in Greece, Lyddie finds she has run headlong into everything she has tried to avoid.
In this novel of conflicting allegiances played out between a richly realized late Cold War Berlin and the stark beauty of the Cycladic islands, travellers, natives, and refugees circle one another warily, their fates hanging on the question of which trusts if any, will remain unviolated.

Author Bio
Paula Closson Buck is the author of two books of poems. Her short stories have appeared or are forthcoming in Southern Review, Kenyon Review, and Ploughshares. She has lived briefly in both Berlin and the Greek islands, but her current home is in Lewisburg, PA, where she teaches creative writing at Bucknell University.
