Movie Review - X-Men: Days of Future Past

What's it about ....
The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class in an epic battle that must change the past - to save our future. The X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants.

Review
WOW ... More like a Holy Shit WOW!

Okay so for those of you who follow my blog you know that I am not shy about confessing my undying love for Hugh Jackman. I mean SERIOUSLY LOVE HIM. And I think I actually purred out loud a time or two in this movie. Because he was hot. I mean like the HAWT you write home about and read in romance novels. I realize I am digressing before I even begin the review haha. Sorry, but he was amazing!

Anywho ... As most of you know I love the super hero world but I am not a 'comic super hero' girl so each and every time I watch these movies I am always surprised by what happens. The endings are never ruined for me, each character is brand new in that moment to me ... and I love it that way.

This will be my most favorite movie of the year. I am 99% sure of it. I left the theater crying. Seriously.

So the movie starts out with the mutants being attacked and wiped out by the human machines that were created to destroy the enemy. AKA The Mutants. So Professor X and Magnito have to devise a plan and end up sending Logan (AKA my dream hubby) back into time to save the world.

I turned to my husband and said (yes in the theaters but it was a whisper) "Ohh so this is really going to be a Logan movie!" Yes I get so giddy over him. Hush, you know you do too!

Anyway .... He goes back in time and does his stuff. But the first scene where he is back in 1973 had me drooling. Here, let me show you a photo, or two, or ten, lol.

 Whoa Momma!

Ohh those abs....

But isn't he just gorgeous? Seriously!

I seriously purred here!

Moving on ... I think the plot/script was amazing. It all flowed perfectly. The cinematography was very impressive. The acting was top notch.

I cried in two different parts. First when Young Professor X had a scene with Older Professor X. And I couldn't help thinking "Oh My God I have been in the same room as Captain Picard!" I know I know, super dork I am!

Then when Logan woke up from the past, immediately I knew what was about to happen and the tears just poured out of me. It was the most emotional feeling I have had in a movie when it didn't involve any character dying off or what not. My hubby looked at me smiling, I was like *sniffles* No I am NOT crying *wiping away tears*.

I wish I could tell more but I can't. It would ruin it for you.

If you love X-Men, Superheros or Marvel then go see this movie. There is nothing that you will regret by spending 130 minutes enjoying Hugh Jackman and the rest of the cast.

Fandom! ComicPalooza - Spike, Harry Potter, And So Much More....

It is that time of year again ... and some of you might be thinking, 'Yes Ashley! It's your birthday!' And while you might be right ... you are wrong. It is ComicPalooza time! So this year, like last year, I wasn't just a spectator I was a participant. It was quite an experience. And let me stress this, SO MUCH FUN!!!

Let us start off with Friday - Stacy and I arrive bright and early to find our table. We set everything up night and pretty, each day working on our display to make sure it looked the best. Stacy and Callie had designed posters for us this year. You know, to help people catch their eye and suck them into the Art of Safkhet book world. And yes, it did work!

So now we are onto the 'fan girl' moments. Every vampire lover knows and adores SPIKE, I mean, who wouldn't? He smelled DELISH! He was a total gem to be around. He said the writers were the most important part of the shows, that actors were nothing without a good writer.

And if his awesomeness wasn't enough he made a video for my friend in the UK that, for obvious reasons, couldn't make it to the event. Wasn't that just the sweetest?

Now moving onto Jason Mewes, AKA Jay from movies such as, Dogma, Clerks, Clerks 2, Mall Rats. I have to say this was probably my best experience with a celeb to date. He was engaging, sincere and an all around wonderful guy. I was acting a fool, I was giggling and smiling. I told him I had a blog and I wanted to interview him cause I was a huge fan. Do you know what he said? YES! He gave me a time and place to meet him ... My life was so complete. And then it hit me, I had an author's panel to attend to and couldn't meet him. Luckily the hubby filled in for me. Cause he is amazing like that. Here is the 6 minute interview.

My last 'Celeb' experience wasn't so hot ... Cary Elwes was a major disappointment. All he wanted to do the entire time was talk about his new book coming out. It didn't matter what question I asked it all came back to that. But he did smell good and I did get a picture with a Hollywood Icon so I guess there are worse things my money has been spent on.

Overall it was a great time, everyone was nice and I will be back next year. I just hope next year my internet on my phone is working and I can post more live action photos.

And last but not least the best part of the weekend. When a fan of mine turns into me becoming a fan of the fan! I met this couple, they were great guys! Loved them to bits. And Alex and I got to chatting. Turns out he was the man who ran the RIGHT HAND of DOBBIE on Harry Potter!!! Yes he was The Puppeteer!!! HOW amazing is that!!! He asked me for a photo of he and I together and I said yes but then I snapped a selfie of he and I because come on, HE was on Harry Potter!!!

Here are a few pic's I took just for fun of random people.

Gliterary Girl Presents: Stolen Gifts by Rasha Selim

Back cover blurb:
Whoever said you can’t go home again was right.
My name is Van, and my life isn't exactly going the way I'd expected. I moved far from home, away from everyone I know and love to avoid having to reveal my Gift...a Gift so strong it scares me. A Gift so strong I know people would try to use me for their own gain, regardless of how much it may hurt me.
A dear friend from my youth is getting married back home, and while I'm thrilled for her, I know what waits for me there--disappointment from my parents, and concern from my brother and friend. But worst of all, I have to face Caine, a man I have loved for as long as I can remember, who just doesn’t feel the same way about me.
Somehow, Caine and I find ourselves in the middle of investigating the mysterious disappearances of other Gifted people. When the two of us are abducted, I have to decide if I am willing to use my Gift to save us, even though doing so will reveal my abilities to Caine. Little did I know that using my Gift is exactly what the villain is waiting for…putting both our lives are in jeopardy.

Synopsis:
Having a Gift is hard.  Keeping the ability to read and manipulate minds a secret from family and friends is torture.
Vanessa (Van) Lyons is terrified of her very powerful Gift of Mind, and has been hiding it from her family since she was a child.  Her Gift troubled her so much that she moved away from everything and everyone she knew to avoid the possibility of the truth being discovered.  She's stayed away for a long time, making excuses for staying put in her charming little cottage in a small town far enough away to be a comfortable buffer.  But an invitation to the wedding of her childhood best friend Kelley brings her back home...and forces her to confront all of her fears and emotions.  It also forces her to be face-to-face with the man she has loved since they were young.
Caine Moore is a handsome journalist with a playboy reputation.  Seen frequently about town or in the tabloid pages with a different beautiful woman on his arm, he has become a completely different man from the boy Van grew up with.  Tension builds between them as he sends Van mixed messages throughout the pre-wedding festivities, confusing her and making her yearn for things she's spent a long time convincing herself she could never have.
Caine has been working on a story, and has seen things he shouldn't see.  In his desire to protect Van, he inadvertently pulls her into an intriguing but deadly case that puts her right into the killer's path...
Excerpt
My stomach rolled when he spoke.  His tone changed, and he spoke with the authority of a doctor explaining a procedure to their patient.  Where normally this would be soothing for the patient, the more details he divulged, the more apprehensive I became.  I would only have one attempt at breaking through his Displacement.
I tuned him out and closed my eyes.  I needed every last bit of strength I had to fight this monster before me.  I was so deep in concentration, that I didn’t notice the quiet.  He stopped talking. I opened my eyes and was startled to see that Thomas was in the room, whispering…

Virtual Book Tour Dates: 5/13/14 – 5/27/14
Genre: Literary Fiction

Blurb:
What is love? Is it a possession, something to confine and put on display? Is it declarations for the whole world to hear, or is it a precious space within the heart?
After a tragic event in which agents and parents keep them apart, Frankie and Alex maintain a long distance love affair throughout the turbulent Sixties, away from the prying eyes of the press and the fans. Separated, their love breeds strength to overcome obstacles that once held them down. Individually, they blossom creatively and their talents soar to new heights. Within the secrecy of their relationship, they learn greater lessons of love, lessons not defined by society, but by the heart and the soul.
A true lover knows what the other needs and will often make great personal sacrifices for the well-being of their lover. Sometimes the strength of love is being able to say goodbye.

Excerpt:
Frankie couldn’t help it; she was so excited to be alone with him. “So, how was your incredible and inspiring trip?”
Alex sat down across the table from her with a bowl of fruit loops and a cup of tea. “Where to start? Australia was out of this world. Heard some incredible Aborigine music, and then a mad Aussie got me wasted. India was a spiritual hell hole, and I spent most of my time with the chattiest of Hindus, but a real nice fellow. South Africa, my guide, Cebo, was a crazier driver than you.”
“Crazier than you?” Frankie asked with a smirk.
“Crazier than you,” Alex restated strongly and laughed. “I jammed with a Zulu band, and they gave me the name Luyanda.”
“Sounds like a girl’s name,” said Frankie.
“Shut up. It’s very manly. It means love to grow,” he said.
Frankie looked at Alex curiously. “Love to grow? Your love is still growing?”
“Yes, apparently I am blossoming, like a budding flower,” he said with a smile and batting of his eye lashes.
“Girl,” teased Frankie.
Alex playfully kicked Frankie under the table. “Smarty,” he said and munched on a heaping spoonful of Fruit Loops. “Peru was a bit sad.”
“Why was Peru sad?” questioned Frankie with a mouthful of cornflakes.
“I saw this young man play guitar. He reminded me of myself years ago, but untouched and not jaded. His soul and his playing were pure. Not only have I lost that, I’m afraid I never had that. It made me think my entire life has been a waste.” He gazed at Frankie. “What do you see when you see meplay?”
Frankie sat back in her chair, thought for a moment and said, “Myself.”
The answer stunned Alex. “You see you?”
Curling her knees to her chest Frankie rocked forward. “Yes. I see you in me. I feel you in me. I feel your nervousness and anxiety. I feel what you play. It touches me, and I understand it all.” She could tell by Alex’s expression that her words made an impact, and she continued. “Alex, you‘re very talented. You need to start believing in yourself. You have traveled the world to discover music, but you don’t realize music has been inside you the whole time.”
Alex laughed. “Leave it to Frankie Freud to figure me out.”
“I’m going to start charging you,” she teased.
“Well, in that case, I do have a present for you.” said Alex and reached for his bag. “Check this out.” He pulled out the boomerang clappers and slapped them together. “Boomerangs as musical instrument, cool ‘eh?”
Frankie leaped from her seat and grabbed the boomerangs from his hands. “Wow! Are these for me?” she asked excitedly and danced around the kitchen wildly clapping the boomerangs.
Alex tugged the boomerangs from her hands. “No, they’re for me.”
“So I don’t get boomerang clappers,” she said with a pout.
“No, I have something else for you,” he said sternly.
He pulled out two jewelry boxes and rattled them both to hear the contents of what was inside. “Here, this is for you,” he said handing Frankie one of the boxes.
“Who is the other one for?” she asked.
“Sarah,” Alex replied flatly.
Frankie didn’t respond; she suspected the answer. She carefully unwrapped the paper and unfolded the tissue paper to find a beaded design hanging from a safety pin like ribbon. She glanced at Alex curiously.
“It is a Zulu love letter. I made it for you on the plane to Peru, spilled beads all over the cabin floor. Anyway, the bead colors tell the story of love,” explained Alex.
“What does it say?” asked Frankie.
Alex patted his lap and Frankie joined him. He pointed to each bead and explained, “The black beads mean heartache, the turquoise means I lose hope you will marry me, the red means longing and the green is jealousy.”
“Doesn’t sound like such a nice love letter,” said Frankie.
“But you see it’s all surrounded by the white beads that mean hope and the brown beads is like giving new life,” explained Alex. He put his arm around her waist. “The letter as a whole reads, despite all the heartache, impatience, longing and jealousy. I have hope that we will have a new life together.”

Spotlight: The Reluctant First Lady by Venita Ellick

New Women's Fiction That's Stirring Up a National Debate

by Venita Ellick

About the Author:

Venita Ellick was fated to be a writer. She was named for a character in a book her mother was reading at the time of the birth. As a young girl, she spent so much time in libraries that librarians would save books for her almost daily visits. She began writing stories in the first grade, which her mother

patiently read. The intervention of a career as an educator and raising three sons delayed her focus on writing, but she has now completed three novels. The Reluctant First Lady is her fourth.

Mistress of Mellyn by Victoria Holt and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen captivated her as a teenager. The power and imagery of the printed word made her wonder what each heroine was thinking and feeling. She wanted to be the woman with the cape and hood standing on the edge of the cliff with the wind whipping around her. The mysteries that could be found in stories fascinated her and are echoed in The Reluctant First Lady.

Ellick draws on her experiences as a wife, mother, teacher, and principal to create her characters. Her sense of humor and recognition of the absurd and often whimsical nature of life have allowed her to capture her characters’ lives with authenticity and emotional resonance.

Venita and her husband David have experience as a two-career couple. They live on an island in the state of Washington.

The Reluctant First Lady asks

"Just how much should a woman sacrifice for the person she loves?"

Summary:

Ashley Taylor has been straightforward with her husband, the president-elect of the United States. She supported his candidacy, but she has no intention of assuming the traditional role of First Lady—a position she describes as “First Hostess.” Instead, she will resume her own career as head of one of the largest art museums in New York. The aftermath of her decision triggers reactions from the public, news commentators, late night comedians, and other political factions. While Ashley and Michael wrestle with saving their marriage and preserving their professional lives, the country debates whether the role of First Lady is a necessity, how the media influences the lives of public figures, and how much a woman should sacrifice for the person she loves.

Excerpt:

From Chapter 3 of The Reluctant First Lady

Applause and pandemonium broke out on the other side of the curtain, indicating Michael had reached the end of his speech.

A stage manager nodded and, with Ashley and the twins leading the way, followed by the vice president- elect, his wife, and family, she stepped onto the stage and into the bright lights. The noise from the crowd grew in intensity as each of them came into view. They all walked forward to stand beside Michael, Ashley and the twins to his left; Robert Hughes, Catherine, and their children to his right.

The chaos and elation vibrating through the crowd was intoxicating. Cheers from a wildly exuberant audience and music blocked out what individuals were saying, but the camaraderie of those on the stage was evidenced by their smiles, hugs, and claps on the back. Before the world, she and Michael looked like the perfect couple. Michael pulled his family, plus Richard and his family, toward him while photographers snapped pictures of this historic event.

Amid the excitement, it almost went unnoticed that a reporter shouted a question at Ashley. She ignored him, hoping he would go away.

The reporter repeated his question. “Mrs. Taylor, what causes do you intend to champion during the next four years in the White House?”

Ashley winced inwardly, but no outward expression marred her serene expression. She had a choice. She could tell the truth or continue to go along with the lie. Damn it. She’d been dodging questions like this for months about what special causes she intended to champion if her husband were elected. In fact, she’d become a master of evasion, not something she was proud of. Unquestionably the smartest thing to do would be to give the same canned response she’d been giving throughout the campaign. It would be a lie, all of it. But then she wouldn’t be accused of rocking the boat, a boat, she might add, that she knew was taking on a lot of water.

She was tired of being evasive. She was sick to death of lying by omission. Michael’s managers had convinced her that he wouldn’t be elected if she declared her intentions. But, Michael had been elected. Was it possible that she was making more of this than necessary?

She leaned toward the reporter and his microphone and began speaking in a quiet, clear voice.

“First, I’d like to thank everyone here and at home for their incredible support throughout the campaign. I’m extremely proud of Michael and have always believed he’d be a great leader and a great president. The American people have chosen wisely and well this day. As for me, with the election over, I’ll be returning to my job as director of the Cameron Museum of Art in New York. It’s never been my intention to serve as the First Lady. Over half of the families in our country are two-career families. Our family isn’t any different. In fact . . .”

Ashley felt Michael’s hand on her elbow. “Ashley, just smile and wave. We’re getting off of the stage now.”

REVIEW
I have come to really enjoy Kate's writings. There is something about how she lays a story out that makes it very easy to follow and a joy to read.

Often times in erotica you find that the plot and story itself are lacking. I am really glad that Ms. Deveaux's stories don't fit that bill. You have easy characters to like and feel for. The plot had a few surprises that I didn't see coming, which is always nice when you are reading a book.

Now, there were a bit of unbelievable parts to this story line, but that didn't bother me very much. I read to get away from reality right? So it doesn't all have to be 100% believable for me to enjoy it.

But I did have a 'OMG WTF' moment twice in the book, and honestly, I love when authors make me have those moments. Because it means I am really into the story and bamm something unexpected happened.

I wasn't a total fan of 'Laura's' in the book. Granted she was just a side character, I wished she would have supported Chloe more than she did, without the need to question each movement Chloe made.

I never was impressed with Conner. So I am glad the 'hunk from Texas' showed up lol.

All in all I give this a 4.5 Stars. It was easy, light and a nice read on a Friday night.

Giveaway, Spotlight: Knight Blindness by Chris Karlsen

Gliterary Girl wants to introduce you to KNIGHT BLINDNESS by Chris Karlsen.

Synopsis for KNIGHT BLINDNESS

Given a choice between the pleasant life you knew centuries ago or
the possibility of all you want in an uncertain new world, which would you choose?

Two men torn through time find themselves in the modern but alien world.
Old enemies, one hunting the other, one discovering love, both fighting private battles to survive.

Book 3 of The Knights in Time Series

Ready for battle, Medieval English knight, Stephen Palmer, charges into the French enemy’s cavalry line. Heeding a warning given months before, he hesitates as he comes face-to-face with the knight in the warning. Struck down in the year 1356, he finds himself landing in the year 2013. Grievously wounded, he’s taken to a nearby hospital. Confused by the new world surrounding him, he attempts to convince the staff he’s from another time, only to find they think him mad.

Rescued by friends, who, to his surprise, have also come through time, he must find a way to function in this odd modern England. He is quickly enchanted by the kind Esme Crippen, the young woman hired to tutor him. She too is enchanted by him. Tempted to deepen the relationship, she hesitates thinking him adorable, but mad. He must discover the means for getting her to believe the truth, all the while, unknown to him, he didn’t come forward in time alone. The enemy knight has also traveled to 2013.

French noble, Roger Marchand, doesn’t question why the English knight who charged him hesitated. That fraction of a pause gave him the advantage needed and he brought his sword down upon the Englishman’s helmet hard, unhorsing the knight. He moved to finish the Englishman off when the world changed in a rush of sensations as he is ripped through time.

Seeking a reason for the terrible event, he enters a nearby chapel. There, thinking God has chosen him for a quest to turn French defeat that day in 1356 to victory, he sets out to find the English knight. The man he is convinced holds the key to time. If he returns to the day of the battle, he can warn his king of mistakes that snatched victory from them.
