BLURB

In Son of No One, next in the blockbuster The Dark-Hunters series by Sherrilyn Kenyon, it’s not easy being life’s own personal joke, but Josette Landry has made an unstable peace with the beast. Completely down on her luck, Josette takes a job with a local paranormal group as a photographer and camerawoman. Yeah, they’re even crazier than she is. The only paranormal thing she believes in is the miracle that keeps her rusted-out hoopty running. But when something truly evil is released into the world, they are forced to call in reinforcements.

From the moment Josette meets Cadegan, she knows something about him isn’t quite right. Mysterious and armed with lethal sarcasm, he seems a lot older than his age.

Centuries ago, Cadegan was viciously betrayed into an immortal prison by the only person he’d ever trusted and was cast into an immortal prison. Forced against his will to do good, he hates everything in life. All he wants is a way out. But for the damned there is only eternal suffering. And yet there is something about Josette that intrigues him. Something he can’t seem to fight and the last time he felt this way about a woman, it cost him everything.

He knows he has to stay away from her, but the unleashed demon is hell-bent on consuming her soul. If one more innocent is taken, he will be sent back to an unimaginable prison that makes his current hell look like paradise. But how can he keep her safe when his being with her is the greatest threat of all?

REVIEW

Holy Hell Batman!!

Okay where to start? I am still reeling from the 'Bonus Scene" at the end of the book. As always, or damn near close to always, SK keeps me so enthralled in the story that the only time I put my Kindle down was because I had to charge it. This novel took me 4 hours total to read, and yeah, I really flew through it. Much like her usual standard her writing was fantastic. Such an easy style to follow and enjoy.

Now onto the nitty gritty of the book.

I liked Josette and Cadegan. Their 'love' started quite quick but that was alright. It didn't bother me one bit because I loved those two together. I also loved Thorn and his roll in the book too.

Simi and Fang - God how you love those two! I laughed out loud at two different parts and it was because of these two characters. They are always the comedic break in the serious scene aren't they?

It was a little weird seeing Styxx here. I am still unsure how I feel about that book, much like Acheron's it will stick with me for a little while and in a few years I'll come up with a final verdict on that one. But overall I liked Styxx and Ash's interactions together in this novel.

What I didn't like ... that it ended ....

Okay so there is no way I can go a moment longer so *semi spoiler* attempt ... READ THE BONUS SCENE LIKE NOW!!!!!!!! Yeah if your jaw doesn't drop then you must be a statue!

5 Stars easily because yeah, SK is my author goddess and I love her work!

~~SUMMARY~~
Immortal-Edge-of-World-3D-Bookstack“What I was currently doing with my time and money . . . didn’t really deserve anyone else’s attention. If I was feeling romantic about it, I’d call it a quest, but all I was really doing was trying to answer a question I’d been ignoring for a thousand years.” In his very long life, Adam had encountered only one person who seemed to share his longevity: the mysterious red-haired woman. She appeared throughout history, usually from a distance, nearly always vanishing before he could speak to her. In his last encounter, she actually did vanish—into thin air, right in front of him. The question was how did she do it? To answer, Adam will have to complete a quest he gave up on a thousand years earlier, for an object that may no longer exist. If he can find it, he might be able to do what the red-haired woman did, and if he can do that, maybe he can find her again and ask her who she is . . . and why she seems to hate him. “You are being watched. Move your loved ones to safety . . . trust nobody.” But Adam isn’t the only one who wants the red-haired woman. There are other forces at work, and after a warning from one of the few men he trusts, Adam realizes how much danger everyone is in. To save his friends and finish his quest he may be forced to bankrupt himself, call in every favor he can, and ultimately trade the one thing he’d never been able to give up before: his life. From the author of Immortal and Hellenic Immortal comes Immortal at the Edge of the World, the breathtaking conclusion to the best-selling trilogy. Will Adam survive?

"Brilliant end to the trilogy, with much twistiness involved in tying up all the plotlines. Lots of humour and typical Adam-ness - but no spoilers from me. You'll just have to read it for yourself. I think this might be my favourite of the series.+  - Andrea Goodreads Review

GUEST POST

How important is humor in your work - do you incorporate it all your novels?
300-600words

Great question!  I don’t feel any pressure to be funny now at all!

Humor is something I’ve always been good at—along with my staggering humility—and the first kind of writing I cared to show off.  I wrote fake interviews for my school paper when I was in seventh grade (I interviewed a dog once, and a tree) and in eighth grade started a novel that was probably more like Hitchhiker’s Guide fan fiction, and wrote a humor column for my high school paper.  It didn’t take me very long to find my voice, in other words, and that voice was deeply sarcastic.

It wasn’t until college that I realized I needed to learn how to tone that voice down.  This discovery was made after a play I had written was produced.  The play was called Habeas Corpus and it was, by all accounts, a dreadfully serious examination of how people cope with death.   Yet people laughed through many parts of it—although thankfully not the very last part, which included the sentence “but dead bodies don’t bleed!”—and the reviewer called the play “darkly comic”.

Since then I’ve spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to not be funny.  And when that’s proven impossible I’ve tried working how to be funny only on purpose.  Eventually I figured out how useful humor could be in a serious story.

There’s a Hitchcock film called Family Plot in which two characters discover, on descending a steep mountain pass, that their car’s brake line has been cut and they can’t stop.  But they were coming from a restaurant at the top of that mountain, and they’d been drinking, so the scene of the descent goes between the intense drama of the husband trying to navigate the car without dying, and the hysterically laughing wife in the passenger seat who thinks this is incredibly funny.  It’s a roller coaster, where the funny part (unless you are a sociopath the wife is the funny part of this story) makes the dramatic part that much more intense.

This is pretty much how I’ve gone about using humor in my more serious writing, by which I mean all my fiction.  Adam, my immortal narrator, is profoundly sarcastic and sometimes funnier than I am—which is kind of weird—but when he’s serious there’s no question about it.

HEA Book Tours Prsents: Every Soul by LK Collins

EVERY SOUL
Author: LK Collins
Genre: Erotic Romance
~ SYNOPSIS ~
When you lose the one person who grounds your existence, your whole world changes.

In life, it is said that everything happens for a reason. If that’s true, how can you explain death? Especially when it happens to someone so young, so beautiful, and so innocent? My name is Bain Adams, and I struggle with these thoughts every day. I’ve been through hell and back, somehow surviving the unimaginable. My sister took her life six months ago, and now, what’s left is a shell of the man I once was, a shadow of the person I used to be. Do I miss that life? Absolutely. But I miss her more, every day. I pray time will ease the pain and help my suffering while I search for the answers…but so far, nothing.

Happiness is something I knew so long ago, and now it’s nothing but a faint, distant recollection of the life I once had. My name is Arion LaSalle, and seven months ago my life was shredded to pieces when my fiancé disappeared while deployed. He never came home, burning a hindrance of pain and agony within my soul. For so long, I lived my life believing everything happens for a reason, until now. ‘Cause none of it makes any sense. Why Nate? Why only him? Since getting through each breath is a struggle, I put on a fake persona, pretending I’m someone I’m not, living my life recklessly. Because for me, it was all taken far too soon.

~ EXCERPT ~
“So are you really going to eye fuck me all night without introducing yourself?”
What the fuck? I swallow hard, her words catching me off guard. “Uhh, I’m Bain.”
Those are the only words that come out; my heart is pounding. She laughs at me and I turn to her and ask, “What’s so funny?”
“You. That’s all you’re going to say? Uhh, I’m Bain?”
            “Yeah.”
“Okay,” she responds is a quieter tone, understanding that I’m serious. “Well, Bain, I’m Arion. I just thought with the way you’ve been staring at me all night, you’d have more to say.”
Fuck, she’s quick with words. Unfortunately for me, I’m at a great disadvantage; the bars mixed with the alcohol have made my mind fuzzy. I can’t keep up with her, not like this. I need to be sober. “Was I that obvious?” I finally ask.
            “Yeah.”
She flicks her cigarette into the parking lot and stares at me. Pulling my eyes from the ground, I meet hers. She’s gorgeous, she’s really something else, I tell yah. Especially her eyes, gray and…laced with hurt, just like mine. She acts tough, but she’s hiding something. “Listen, Bain, I don’t know what’s wrong with you.”
            “Nothing’s wrong,” I retort. “I’m…I’m just…drunk.”
“Me too,” she responds running her hands down my chest and pushing me harder into the wall. Our eyes never leave one another’s. My breathing increases and I focus on staying calm while feeling what she is doing to me with her hands. It doesn’t take but a few seconds ‘til she slides them under my shirt. I may not have words when it comes to her, but my lips don’t let me down. Staring into her eyes, she looks at me with uncertainty. I attempt to ease that, with a kiss.
Her lips are plump and tender. She tastes of mint with a hint of Jäger. The moment she touches her tongue with mine, my senses flip and that need that’s been knocking to escape all night erupts.
A couple exits the bar and we separate for a brief moment. Then I pull her down the side of the building. The moment we are tucked nicely into the dark alley, we pick right back up. This is seedy as fuck.
It’s a crisp night, but being with her in the cold doesn’t bother me. Her hands are warm as they explore every part of my body. But being a man, I want more. “Keep touching me,” I command, wanting to feel her warm hands on my cock. Holding her face, I continue to kiss her, loving the release I get while indulging in her.
            “Mmmmm, you do speak.”
Growling, I flip her around, now pressing her against the wall. “I do. Fuck, Arion…” I trail off, unsure of what to say next.
She makes quick work of the button and zipper of my pants and wastes no time going in, clenching me hard, just like I wanted. “Mmmmmhhhhh,” I groan as she begins to stroke me.
“Your cock is big and I want it deep in my throat.” She drops to her knees and I lean my hands against the wall, questioning what we are doing for half a second. There is no one around us and no one in sight – fuck it. Her tongue hits me swirling over the end; I brush her hair out of her face and watch as she engulfs me. From tip to base, she takes me all the way. When I don’t think she can go any further, she does, and her nose touches my skin. It takes real skill to take all of me. She stares up working my cock in and out of those sweet, plump lips. We watch one another, and I wonder who in the world she is. So confident, sexy, and…dominant. Christ, it’s such a fucking turn-on.
Each pull and push she matches with her hand, twirling her tongue as she goes. I especially like watching her mouth stretch. Stopping for a moment, she removes her lips but jerks my shaft, quickly. “Will you come in my mouth, Bain?”
“Suck me hard and I will.”
I nod my head when she obeys and feel my balls tighten. Fuck, it’s been too long. Looking at her as she takes my release, her eyes are closed and she’s in a zone, enjoying this. As she pushes me to orgasm, her mouth is so warm. Her movements are perfect and I come so hard in the back of her throat, pumping my hips and thrusting out every last drop of cum. To my surprise, she swallows, smirking at me the moment she finally takes my cock out of her mouth. Standing, she licks her lips. I’m panting, trying to catch my breath as she says, “It was a pleasure to meet you, Bain,” and walks away.

Purchase: Amazon

Blurb

For twenty years Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to Scotland's majestic mist-shrouded hills. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as stunning as the events that gave it birth: about the mystery of an ancient circle of standing stones ...about a love that transcends the boundaries of time ...and about James Fraser, a Scottish warrior whose gallantry once drew a young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his ....

Now a legacy of blood and desire will test her beautiful copper-haired daughter, Brianna, as Claire's spellbinding journey of self-discovery continues in the intrigue-ridden Paris court of Charles Stuart ...in a race to thwart a doomed Highlands uprising ...and in a desperate fight to save both the child and the man she loves....

Review

I have a lot of feelings about this book ... Which makes writing a review a bit hard. I think I am going to do a pros and cons type post if nothing else to help flesh out my own thoughts.

The pros - things I like.
Ms. Gabaldon has a very well tuned writing structure. Her stories are easy to follow and her plots are very solid. The world and  cast of characters is very in depth and I love the fact that she includes so many different characters even in a first person setting.

I think that it is hard for an author to capture so many different characters at one time and I find her skill at that very impressive.

The cons - things I have issues with.

As great as her writing is, it is just too long. There are far to many details and I feel myself getting drown in the extremely long story. It felt like as much as I read it didn't matter, the book was going on forever and never going to end.

This is just too much for me and as such, I feel this is a 3 star book. I wish I could give it more.

When it comes to relationships, I have really bad luck. Each time I meet a guy, I cross my fingers and hope he is at least half way normal. At this point, I’m so close to just joining a convent, taking the vow of chastity, and calling it quits with men entirely. Well, I probably don’t need to go to that extreme... I mean who am I kidding? There's no way could I be a nun. But becoming an old crotchety lady with 20 cats lurking around? Now THAT is a definite possibility. That was until I saw him, my brown-eyed stallion man, swooping in to save me from an unforeseen wrinkly old balls attack, and then... he is gone. Well, not gone completely, because I can’t stop fantasizing about him.

Spotlight: Release Day: A Cat Taught Me That - Life's Lessons From Felines by Charlotte Gerber

Blurb:
Catnap often. Don’t be a stalker unless food is involved. Despite the rumor, it is okay to be curious! A Cat Taught Me That is filled with humorous advice and the wisdom of elder cats that includes information on how to get more out of life, and how to avoid common pitfalls along the way. Cat lovers will enjoy the adorable photographs and cute illustrations throughout.
Celebrity cat ‘Awesome Louie’ provides insight with his gritty cat interviews, as well as sage advice with his “Mewsings” column. Short essays from the cat-lady author will bring smiles to the faces of readers who have learned that “Not All That Glitters is Gold” and “To Be Kissed By a Cat” can have unintended consequences.
Excerpt:
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
“A Little Indulgence is Okay”
I’m Louie and I’ve been told I have a problem with cat treats. Of course, a problem is in the eye of the beholder. In my eyes, loving cat treats isn’t a problem unless I run out of them.
After I was rescued, I learned three things about my caregiver and new best friend. First, food was readily available day or night; I would never be hungry again. Second, I was now living in a house that was warm and cozy; freezing outside in the winter was highly unlikely. Third, I learned about this tasty food called “snacks”. I would come to love it when my caregiver announced the magical words with enthusiasm – “Kitty treats!”
When I was first introduced to this fabulous dining experience, the flavors included turkey, beef and chicken. Eventually catnip and dairy-flavored treats entered the scene. Once I tasted those little nuggets of goodness, I was hooked.
I perfected the sad kitty face, which is subtle and very effective when done properly. The trick is to look longingly at your target and try not to blink. Raise a paw in a slightly pathetic manner towards the treat container as the caregiver opens it – a classic move.
While my owner swears that she may check me into a clinic for cats with food addictions, she is more purr than hiss. I know that the next time she comes home from the pet store with kitty snacks, she’ll rattle the bag because she knows I’m listening. I’ll come racing into the kitchen like a furry, 16 pound bowling ball on steroids, and she’ll love me for it. And give me treats.
Take it from me, you can never be too furry or have too many treats!
